About the Course
In our newest episode in our Tutorial series, we’re joined by special guest (and SLP), Judy Southey to get the ABCs of PECS. Like, did you know saying, “Hand me a PEC” demonstrates a total misunderstanding of the acronym? Or, more importantly, the steps involved in training the usage of PECS for increasing verbal behavior? What comes first, second, last and what common misconceptions about PECS can interfer with the development of functional language? More questions, we’ve got the answers! This episode is available for 1.0 LEARNING CEU.

Meet Your Podcast Guests
Judy Southey graduated as a Speech and Language Pathologist from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2000. I got my first job at the Rainbow Center, a special needs school in Singapore and decided to travel. I worked there or just under 2 years, during which time I received a variety of trainings, but of most personal impact, training in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). My next destination was London, where I spent my time working in a sub-separate classroom for students with Autism. I also worked for Pyramid UK as a PECS consultant. I moved to MA in 2008 for my husband's work. Since living in the USA, I have worked at The New England Center for Children (2008-2018) and the public school setting. I am passionate about giving non-verbal or minimally verbal children a voice suing a variety of AAC modalities, my personal favorite being PECS and Speech generating devices.
